Day 1 of Whole 9, 30 Day Diet

Today my husband and I officially started the whole 9, 30 day diet: whole 9 diet.  This is the paleolithic diet, which allows you to eat all the meat and veggies your body can handle Paleolithic diet.  This was my husbands idea inspired by one our friends, Coy West.  He had lost 30 pounds doing this diet, he feels great, and changed his lifestyle all in 30 days.   Our main incentive for this diet is to break bad habits, and restore our gut health.  We try not to focus on weight as much as how well we feel overall.  We decided to do this diet 30 days before my husband's birthday, which is September 8.  We look forward to having a drink and nice dinner on his Birthday!

Personally, I've been struggling with pre-diabetes since I was a teenager, and figured this is a great way to get my blood sugar under control.  Recently, I saw the Tribe Called Quest movie, and Phife Dawg (the funky diabetic) moved me.  He is struggling with Type 1 Diabetes and is addicted to sugar.  I know all too much what it's like to be addicted to sugar even though you know it's slowly killing you every time you take a bite.  His story hit home for me and had me in tears.  He recently had to go through a kidney transplant, so he no longer has to have dialysis.  His kidney was donated by his wife.  This was good motivation for me to get and stay healthy!

The biggest challenges I foresee is not being able to eat grains, dairy, alcohol, sugar, or beans.  We have found some great recipes online, and luckily for me my husband is a great cook.  We decided to start unofficially Sunday night so we cooked chicken, and rainbow chard with coconut oil and curry.  Yesterday the menu was leftover chicken and chard for lunch, and for dinner we cooked stuffed poblanos with buffalo meat and a delicious roasted tomato sauce atop cauliflower rice.  We snacked on nuts and cherries last night.  Recipes can be found here: Whole Life Recipes and The foodee recipes.

I'm looking forward to the challenge and hope to see our health drastically improve over the next 30 days.
